Homework for:
Friday, October 6: Your element flash cards should now have the first twenty elements, with #s of protons, neutrons, electrons (or atomic mass and number from which you can derive the above) and each element's abbreviation. Now, on the back of the card, sketch a 'solar system' style diagram of the electron configuration for each element.
Read in SI pg 561-564 about Nuclear Chemistry and work the four problems on pg 564 under "Check and Explain."
Heads-up: we will be reviewing next week in preparation for another test.
Also:
for Tuesday, October 10: Make a timeline for the following scientists and atomic ‘groupees’:
Democritus, John Dalton, J.J. Thomson, Niels Bohr, Ernest Rutherford, James Chadwick, Antoine Lavoisier, Antoine Becquerel, Marie Curie, Joseph Proust, Henry Cavendish, Amadeo Avogadro, Stanislao Cannizzaro, Robert Millikan, Aristotle,
Robert Boyle
Note the following on the timeline:
• name and lifespan of the person
On a separate sheet of paper, write down the contribution of each person. If it's a famous experiment (like the gold foil experiment) you should be able to draw a diagram and explain it. You will need to know this 'stuff' for the exam.
